Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) – 5 Day Training Course – Seabrook, NH

This comprehensive five-day course provides students with a balance of technical and theoretical information along with practical applications of radiation safety. Fundamental concepts are presented in a logical progression, providing a sound basis for understanding the day-to-day requirements of the Radiation Safety Officer. This training includes DOT requirements for transportation of radioactive material and satisfies the requirements of Subpart H. A DOT exam is included.

At the conclusion of the course, a Course Completion Certificate is provided to document the successful completion of the course modules. There are no prerequisites or prior experience necessary to enroll in this course. References from past students are available upon request.

Continuing education credits have been approved by the American Academy of Health Physics (32 Continuing Education Credits) and the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (40 hours of Category “A” Continuing Education Credits) for this five-day RSO course. The course will cover:

Respiratory Protection – 3 Day Training Course – Webinar (Remote)

This course covers respiratory protection programs along with the regulations and standards that apply to the proper use of respiratory protection equipment.

Topics covered include:

  • An overview of the history of use of respiratory protection devices
  • The various types of respiratory protection equipment and modes of operation
  • The role that the regulators (i.e., NRC, OSHA, NFPA, and NIOSH, etc.) play in managing a respiratory protection program
  • Reg Guide 8.15 and the principle of TEDE ALARA and how to apply it to real-life scenarios
  • Reg Guide 8.25 air sampling guidance
  • The requirements for quantitative respirator fit testing
  • Recommendations for dealing with IDLH and Oxygen deficient environments
  • The application of regulations and fundamental concepts in developing operational procedures for a respiratory protection program.

Internal Dosimetry Course – 4 Day Training Course – Seabrook, NH

This four-day course covers internal dosimetry fundamental concepts and methods. Students will gain an understanding of radiation risks associated with internal sources of radiation and the methods for detection and analysis of dose. The class will provide a balance of classroom lecture as well as hands-on practical sessions where actual internal dose case studies will be evaluated, and lessons learned will be presented.

Students will gain knowledge on available software and other tools to aid them in assessing both internal dose, including IMBA, and Varskin+.

Major concepts to be covered in class will include:

  • Internal Radiation exposure and dose concepts
  • Basic concepts of intake and biokinetic modeling
  • Internal radiation dose calculations from bioassay results
  • NCRP wound intake modeling (use of Varskin+)
  • Manual dose calculations and use of IMBA for dose calculations
